ABOUT

I am Kaitlyn Sarazin and I am the designer and creator of functional artworks that echo the beauty that I am surrounded by here on this plane of existence. I live an island life with my fiancé and our two sweet + wild boys. I am a surfer girl and I am in my happy place when I am on the water. I am also a certified crystal healing therapist and third degree reiki practitioner. Everyday, I aim to create harmony between my parts. I believe that putting in the work to create harmony between life's parts is the secret to a life well lived.

I am an amateur potter and have received no formal training in creating pottery. I took a wheel throwing class for fun in 2018 and I failed miserably at it for weeks on end. Working on the wheel was the ultimate challenge for me, to sit in stillness and silent determination to reach my goal of shaping the clay into anything at all. In working with the clay, I began to see God in the processes between the elements of water, air, earth, fire, and myself the spirit. Working with clay has opened my eyes to the holiness of all of creation and the spirit of the most High One guides my journey with the clay with the passing of each glorious dance between the sun and moon.

I am a humble student and with each piece I create, I further explore both the media of clay, my own being, and existence itself. I dive more deeply into the landscapes of my homeland, I look for the animal spirits that surround me, and I really touch and feel the textures of the earth beneath me as I co-create with the clay. I am in awe of interplay between spirit and the material realm.

I inhale the colors of the sky more deeply as I plan how to translate them to my work and I can feel the blues of the oceans and ponds in which I see myself reflected when I am making art. I refine my skills and grow as a maker and a heart centered human being with every piece I release into the world.

I know that handmade pottery is a luxury item, and I am SO beyond grateful to be able to share my creations with you all! It is my dream come true to create useable art that people want to hold in their hands and use for their self care rituals everyday. It is so important that we make the space and take time to connect with ourselves each day. With every cup of coffee we pour and every "glass" we fill with water, we nurture and create peace for ourselves. I hope that in collecting my artworks, you are collecting pieces that echo your own spirit's song!

THE PROCESS:

Throwing pottery is my version of seated meditation, where I experience flow state in quiet stillness and synchronicity with a tender heart full of the aloha spirit. Each piece of pottery I create starts as a wet ball of dirt. Next, I spin that ball of dirt into a blank canvas on which to create artworks. I carve the pot into a clean form, and then I sculpt, paint, wax, and glaze the surface of each pot one at a time. Each piece is fired in the kiln at least two times. With every single piece the process is different and every form I make is my teacher.

Each piece of mine is truly different from the next. Some pieces are flowing and free and others are quite detailed and heavily designed, covered with engravings and paintings, they are true functional art. This is why there is such a variation in pricing from one item in my shop to the next. I like to let the materials guide me to the endpoint, so each kiln load has pieces with many shapes and sizes of pots with varying levels of detail.
